A few country-specific things worth knowing
- UK: The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is paid upfront as part of your visa application and covers NHS healthcare access for your stay. Many universities require a tuition deposit to issue the CAS — check whether this deposit is adjusted against your first-year fees.
- Canada: Some Canadian visa offices participate in the Student Direct Stream-style expedited processing for applicants who meet specific financial and language criteria — check current eligibility, as these programmes have changed over time.
- Australia: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is a mandatory visa condition — most students arrange this before departure and can choose from a few government-approved providers. Regional study locations sometimes offer extra visa or migration points incentives compared to major cities — check current settings if you're considering a regional campus.
- Ireland: Non-EU students generally need to register for an Irish Residence Permit (IRP) shortly after arrival, in addition to their entry visa.
- UAE: Most universities act as your visa sponsor and manage a large part of the residence visa process on your behalf, which is a distinctive feature compared to countries where students apply independently.
